Market: Seattle Sounders win
Odds: 2/3 @
Looking to extend on their stellar MLS purple patch, Seattle will welcome St. Louis to Lumen Field in the early hours of Thursday.
Starting with the hosts, while Seattle might have opened up the 2024 campaign in the midst of a public struggle, the Sounders have come roaring back in a sensational fashion. Last seen putting in another eye-catching performance as they secured a 1-0 victory away at Austin, Brian Schmetzer’s men are enjoying what has become a stellar purple patch. Extending on their US Open Cup adventure on July 10th as they claimed a 2-1 win away at USL outfit Sacramento Republic, the mood around Lumen Field appears to be at a red-hot high. Opening July with a 2-0 victory against New England, the Greens have won all of their previous five consecutive domestic appearances across all competitions. Skyrocketing their way up the Western Conference table and sat firmly in the driving seat to claim a play-off ticket this season, Seattle will also be excited by their continued success on home soil. Including an action-packed 3-2 win against Dallas last month, Thursday’s hosts have won all of their previous four straight battles at Lumen Field by an aggregate score of 9-3.
As for the visitors, although St. Louis might have opened up July with a much-needed 2-0 win against San Jose, it appears that might have been just a minor boost. Putting in another nightmare display last weekend as they fell to an infamous 4-1 drumming at home against Vancouver, interim boss John Hackworth appears to have an almighty challenge on his hands. In fact, suffering another 4-1 defeat at the hands of Colorado on July 8th, the Reds have collected just a single victory from any of their previous 12 MLS appearances. Scrapping it out at the foot of the Western Conference standings and already eight points adrift of finding a route into the play-off places, St. Louis have also shown some glaring issues on the road. In fact, the Missouri-based outfit have failed to muster a single away victory since opening up the 2024 campaign. Given what has been a huge recent gulf in class between Thursday’s opponents, we are expecting a similar outcome here.
